R is a free and open source program for doing statistical analyses. Download it here.
R is very useful for computing all sorts of statistics and visualizing data.
There are a lot of good, thorough tutorials. Search for "R tutorial" and take your pick.
The "R Cookbook" by Paul Teetor is pretty good as well. Buy it here.
My tutorial isn't exactly for beginners. Its more of a quick reference guide.
I made it for myself, to remind myself how to do all the stuff I might want to do.
